Why almost feels like a win

A near miss can create excitement without changing your chances.

What your brain notices

Two matching symbols look closer to a triple than three different symbols. Research shows near misses can recruit reward-related brain regions and encourage continued play, even though nothing was won.

What the outcome means

On an independent random spin, almost matching is still a non-winning result. It does not make the next spin more likely to match. The excitement is real; the apparent progress is not.

Try noticing the feeling

After a near miss, ask: did the odds change, or did my urge to play change? Naming that difference helps separate a feeling from evidence.

Take this with you

Almost is a feeling, not improved odds.
